Narrowing down the best burger in Toronto is (obviously) a major challenge because there are so many delicious options in the city. However, being big burger lovers ourselves, we know a handful of great spots that you should check out to start your best burger adventure. From crispy smash burgers to big, juicy patties, this city is no stranger to innovation and creativity.

For us, a good burger is all about the quality of the meat, sauce, toppings, and, of course, the bun. However, we also believe burgers must be accompanied by perfectly crisp French fries for them to make our top 10 list.

Cabano’s Cheeseburger is an iconic burger spot in Toronto, and you can’t have a list without it. Their signature Cabano smash burger is topped with cheese, onions, fried jalapenos, lettuce, and a special sauce. The burger spot offers a walk-in special and is conveniently located in the lavish Yorkville neighbourhood.

You can’t have a list of the best burger spots in Toronto without Burger Drops on it. Torontonians have been enjoying Burger Drops since they opened their doors, from the tender smash beef patties to the drool-worthy Drop sauce, potato bun, and crinkle fries. Bonus points for their dog-friendly patty that our four-legged friends love, too!

When it comes to a good old-fashioned burger and fries, there’s a lot this burger joint has to offer. Plus, their viral banana pudding that has taken the city by storm.

Shake Shack has finally opened its first Canadian location in Toronto and it’s just as delicious as our American friends have promised. From the iconic ShackBurger to the vegetarian ‘Shroom Burger, there is nothing this franchise can’t perfect. The crinkle fries are perfectly crunchy and pair well with their famous Shack sauce.

The Senator

Address: 249 Victoria St, Toronto, ON

The Senator Diner is located at the busy intersection of Yonge and Dundas Square and is one of the city’s oldest restaurants, but that’s not the only thing that makes it iconic. The Elton John has given the burgers here his stamp of approval. In an Instagram post from 2018, the famous singer raved, “Every time we come to Toronto, David and I pop into the Senator Diner for the best burger in the world.” Now is that high praise, or what? These Hollywood-approved burgers are topped with aged cheddar, bacon, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, and a pickle. Delicious!

This new French restaurant opened in The Well, and while it’s still making its place in Toronto’s food scene, it has a burger that you can’t forget about. La Plume offers a French Onion Burger, the perfect mashup between French onion soup and a burger. The beef patty is thick and topped with gruyère, dijon and rosemary aioli, caramelized onion, and served with a side of thinly cut frites.

Matty Matheson is a famous Toronto chef who you may recognize from the hit FX series, The Bear. Unlike his character on The Bear, however, he’s a great chef in real life and his restaurants have a great reputation in this city. One of those restaurants is Matty’s Patty’s. The burger patties are cooked medium and are made of a succulent brisket and chuck mix. Their signature burger is topped with a mustard sauce, American cheese, sliced white onion and pickles and served on a sesame seed milk bun.

Harry’s Charbroiled

Ask any Torontonian, and they’ll tell you Harry’s Charbroiled burgers is one of the best spots in the city. Known for their thick fries and delicious smash burgers, there’s a lot to love at Harry’s. Their classic burger consists of 4oz smash beef patty, American cheese, Harry’s Sauce, lettuce, tomato, pickles and onion in a perfectly charred bun.
