We were always fond of strawberry picking as kids in Canada. Luckily, there are so many great places all over Canada where you can “pick-your-own fruits” and enjoy that nostalgic feeling. 

If you’re planning on spending a summer day picking some fresh berries, we’ve rounded up the best places for strawberry picking in Canada. From family-operated farms with no reservations to those with acres of fields and incredible markets with a strawberry-flavoured menu, read on for our top picks on where to go for strawberry picking in Canada.

Downey’s Strawberry Apple Farm

Address: 13707 Heart Lake Rd., Caledon, ON

Just about an hour away from Toronto is Downey’s Strawberry Apple Farm, a popular farm known for its gorgeous and vast fruit selection. The strawberry and apple farm has fields of fresh and juicy strawberries to pick from. No reservations are required and baskets are provided.

Avonmore Berry Farm

Address: 16365 Fourth Rd., Avonmore, ON

Nestled in the little town of Avonmore is a farm that has 20 acres of some of the best-tasting strawberries in Ontario. Avonmore Berry Farm, a family-owned and operated farm is home to not only fresh fruits and vegetables (depending on the month it’s in season) but also children’s play areas, wagon rides and a pantry that houses homemade jams, freshly baked goods, snacks, drinks, ice cream and their ever so popular strawberry shortcake.

Barrie Hill Farms

Barrie Hill Farms

Address: 2935 Barrie Hill Rd., Springwater, ON

If your vibe is to pick different types of strawberries, Barrie Hill Farms has got you covered. There are three varieties: Annapolis — a sweet but firm berry, Jewel — perfect for jams and baking and Albion — a new hybrid from California known for its sweet taste and bright red colour. Picking season is available from the end of June to October. Enjoy local bites at their Silo Cafe or bring your own picnic blanket for an adorable strawberry picnic. 

Strawberry Creek Farm

Address: 17471 Woodbine Ave., Newmarket, ON

Another family-owned and operated farm, Strawberry Creek Farm has been in the business for more than 15 years. They offer locally grown fruits, vegetables, fresh baking, pick-your-own raspberries, peas, pumpkins and, of course, strawberries! They’re proud to grow Ontario produce from the farm right to your table. There is no appointment or admission charge — just pay for what you pick, so don’t be afraid to get as much as you want. 

Reesor’s Farm Market

Address: 10825 Ninth Line, Markham, ON (Entrance to strawberry fields is on the north side of Elgin Mills Rd.)

Spend a berry delightful day at this GTA farm. Reesor’s Farm Market plants strawberries in the spring when the soil is warm and the land can be worked without it being too muddy. By May, the strawberries are juicy, red and ripe — just in time for strawberry picking season. Online reservations are needed to pick your own berries. When you come home, set some strawberries aside and create a strawberry cake roll

Krause Berry Farms and Estate Winery

Address: 6179 248th St., Delta, BC

Krause Berry Farms and Estate Winery has been one of the best places to pick your own strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries since 1974. Owned and operated by Alf and Sandee Krause, it all started with one acre of strawberries to now an abundant expansion of over 200 acres of the best berries and vegetables Langley has to offer. The farm is open all year round, with the winery in the winter before the berry season starts in mid-May, and closes after the holiday season in December.

Emma Lea Farms

Address: 2727 Westham Island Rd., Ladner, BC

This family-run farm has been a go-to for strawberry picking. At the beginning of June, Emma Lea Farms has sweet, juicy, high-quality strawberries that are ready to be picked daily. They provide new buckets for purchasing berries and charge by the volume.

Bumbleberry Farms

Bumbleberry Farms

Address: 31580 Huntingdon Rd., Abbotsford, BC

Near Abbotsford Airport lies Bumbleberry Farms which is buzzing with delicious fresh berries and fruits that are perfect for pies, jams, desserts and more. Unlike other farms where the strawberries are low to the ground, Bumbleberry has raised beds for a more comfortable experience. Don’t forget to visit their freshly picked stand for more fruit options found in packs. 

Quinn Farm

Address: 2495 boul. Perrot., Notre-Dame-de-l’Ile-Perrot, QC

Located 40 minutes outside of downtown Montreal, pick beautiful, incredibly fresh strawberries and other produce at Quinn Farm. There are tons of activities the whole family can enjoy like going on tractor rides, visiting the animal barn, the snack barn and the farm shop for the ultimate experience. Reservations are required for “u-pick.”

Cormier’s Berry Patch

If you’re in Manitoba or outside of Winnipeg, you must visit Cormier’s Berry Patch. Enjoy sweet, fresh, succulent, local strawberries from the end of June or the beginning of July for around four weeks at one of the province’s best farms for strawberry picking.
