What is the new Chipotle protein?

Chipotle has added Chicken Al Pastor to its menu in Canada and across the globe. According to a recent report, al pastor is one of the fastest growing Mexican dishes, so Chipotle took that information and ran.

The chicken is prepped in small batches throughout the day. The juicy and aromatic chicken is meant to have slight smoky notes with a hit of fruitiness. It is seasoned with a powerful marinade full of Chipotle’s signature adobo, morita peppers and ground achiote with a splash of pineapple. It is then finished and topped with fresh lime and hand-chopped cilantro to create a well-balanced flavour with just the right amount of heat.

How can I order Chipotle Chicken Al Pastor?

Chipotle’s Chicken Al Pastor is available as a protein for any of their customizable burritos, burrito bowls, salads, quesadillas, and tacos. To celebrate the launch of their new protein, Chipotle is offering free delivery through the Chipotle app and website until March 26. You can also try it out by visiting any Chipotle location. It is available for $12.60 in a burrito, bowl or taco, and $13.30 in a quesadilla (prices may vary by region). Just remember, that guacamole will be extra!

How does Chipotle Chicken Al Pastor taste?

If you’re looking to add some heat to your typical Chipotle order, this chicken is for you. As promised, the chicken does have that smoky note and the pineapple definitely adds a sweet tang. We tried it in a burrito bowl and in a fajita quesadilla. While the burrito bowl was flavourful and delicious, the Chicken Al Pastor in the fajita quesadilla was incredible. The combination of the warm and crispy tortilla, the flavourful fajita veggies and the sweet and spicy chicken helped to create the perfect bite. And although it is extra… we do recommend adding some guacamole for the full experience.

While it is not unbearably spicy, this chicken is definitely not for people who like to avoid any heat in their food. However, if you like adding in an extra kick to your favourite burrito bowl or quesadilla, we recommend heading over to Chipotle to try out this new spicy, smoky and sweet protein.
